As we have established, the soldier, who was in his twenties, did not set himself on fire on the grounds of the military unit, but outside it—near his place of residence in Złotoryja County. A passing driver noticed the man engulfed in flames and began putting them out with his jacket. The soldier reportedly suffered burns covering more than 80 percent of his body.
The man was taken by an Air Ambulance helicopter to hospital. He is in a coma. Doctors are fighting for his life, but the situation is very serious.
Unofficially, it is said that the serviceman should have received help earlier. According to our sources, the man reportedly displayed symptoms requiring diagnosis and referral for treatment, but was ultimately discharged home.
The relevant services are investigating the matter. The military has a procedure for clarifying this type of incident, which may include both an analysis of the soldier’s mental state and an assessment of the actions of his superiors.
