On November 11, Konfederacja from Legnica organized a march in Bolesławiec to mark the anniversary of Poland regaining its independence. The event was officially promoted by the press spokesperson for the New Hope party (Konfederacja), Jakub Sokołowski. He named Krzysztof Kownacki, deputy chair of the party’s branch in Bolesławiec, as the organizer, and listed the following as supporting the event: Damian Łoniewski , chair of the party’s branch in Bolesławiec, and Dawid Sarbak, a PiS councillor and former Law and Justice candidate for president.
We asked Councillor Sarbak why he supported Konfederacja rather than organizing the celebrations under the aegis of his parent party, Law and Justice.
Below is the PiS councillor’s response:
First, I support this event as a private individual. The promotional materials for the event clearly state that I—Dawid Sarbak, that is, a natural person—support this event. Please do not associate this with the position I hold, namely that of a City Council councillor, as that is not supported by the facts.
Second, this is not a Konfederacja event, just as it is not a PiS event. The promotional materials for the event contain no information about any party as the event’s organizer. Associating this wonderful event with any political party is a mistake. I am telling you this as a private individual who supports this event. Please believe me that people with different political views took part in organizing it. We are acting together, across party lines.
I will emphasize once again that the event is apolitical and that no political party is involved in organizing it.
On November 11, we celebrate one of the most important holidays in Poland’s history, which unites patriots under the white-and-red flag.
Dawid Sarbak
