On Saturday, the “Future of St. Luke’s Hospital Gala” was held in the gymnasium of I LO in Bolesławiec. According to one attendee, alcohol was served during the event. The drinks reportedly had names referring to medical situations, including “stat!”, “resuscitation”, “oxygen saturation”, “death” and “emergency duty”.
– It is disrespectful to patients. Death and resuscitation are dramatic moments. And here we have such drink names – comments a reader who sent us the photographs.
The venue may also raise controversy. The gala was held on the grounds adjoining the high school. Under the Act on Upbringing in Sobriety, the sale, serving and consumption of alcohol are prohibited on school premises. But does the first high school’s hall belong to the school grounds?
This raises questions:
- did the organizers have the appropriate permits, and is it permissible to serve alcohol in such a space at all?
- who purchased the alcohol (because according to the information available, the drinks were free)?
We asked the gala’s organizer, Fundacja Wspierajmy Zdrowie, for comment.
