The matter was raised on social media, on the Nowogrodziec – news profile, in a post titled: “Fiber optic from the KPO, but not for everyone”. Among other things, it says that the long-awaited construction of a fiber-optic network is underway in Czerna as part of funding from the National Recovery Plan (KPO). The investment is being carried out by Orange, while the work is being performed by a subcontractor.
It turns out, however, that the fiber-optic network may not reach all residents. According to Nowogrodziec – news, high-speed Internet will not cover those who built their homes after the fiber-optic network construction plan had been approved. The plan was reportedly approved as many as three years ago.
As we read on Nowogrodziec – news:
(...) Residents who were not included in the original project are attempting to have their addresses added to the coverage area, submitting applications to Orange, registering on the internet.gov.pl portal, and even contacting the Mayor.
Unfortunately, so far, none of these actions has produced the expected results.
Information obtained from the operator indicates that homes not included in the current project may only be covered by a subsequent investment, which according to estimates may take place in as many as 10 years.
This is a huge disappointment for residents who had hoped for fast and stable Internet access already.
Residents of Czerna and other localities in Gmina Nowogrodziec are appealing for an urgent update to the fiber-optic network expansion plan, so that digital investments reflect real and dynamic changes in local development. At present, the lack of stable and fast Internet can be considered a form of “digital exclusion”.
Fast and stable Internet access is necessary for full participation in everyday life. The lack of this element constitutes a form of exclusion because it prevents people from fully using the opportunities offered by the modern digital world. These include access to public services and administration (e-services), access to banking, remote work and education, shopping, entertainment...
Will the residents’ appeals have an effect? Will the new addresses be included by the operator?
We contacted Orange for comment on the matter. We are awaiting a response.
