On Tuesday evening, a dangerous gas leak occurred on Bielska Street in Bolesławiec. Firefighters and the gas emergency service decided to evacuate the building’s residents, including elderly and ill people. The situation was very difficult for many of them—families came to the scene to help their loved ones, and some people were taken away in ambulances.
Measurements showed that the gas concentration in the air had reached the lower explosive limit. This meant a real danger, so the area was secured and the residents evacuated.
The emergency services are working at the scene: the fire service, police, medical rescue teams and the gas emergency service. The soil is being slowly excavated to reach the place from which the gas is escaping. Due to the risk, the work is being carried out exclusively by hand, using shovels and without heavy equipment.
The situation remains difficult, especially for elderly people who had to leave their homes suddenly. The emergency services are appealing for caution and patience until the danger can be eliminated.
