Gas began leaking on September 23 after 8 p.m. on Bielska Street in Bolesławiec. Gas could be smelled near a four-story building. Two gas emergency vehicles, three fire service units, two police cars and an ambulance are already at the scene.

Initial gas measurements showed the lower explosive limit, meaning that the air may contain 5% gas. Gas emergency workers are looking for the place where the pipe may have become unsealed.

An emergency management official is at the scene. The evacuation of residents began after 9:30 p.m. Some of them may have to spend the night away from home.

Update at 10 p.m.

More than 80 people were evacuated. Some residents with health conditions remained in their apartments.
