BKS Bobrzanie has received an invitation to an international tournament to be held in Český Dub (near Liberec) on 7 and 8 May. Young footballers from Český Dub and Česká Lípa will compete in it. Teams from the Czech towns’ partner cities were also due to take part in the tournament: representatives of Lubań (Český Dub’s partner city) and Bolesławiec (Česká Lípa’s partner city). Unfortunately, the eighteen BKS Bobrzanie cadets (born in 1996 and younger) will not go to the tournament. The reason is the mayor’s refusal Piotr Roman to co-finance the young footballers’ trip to the Czech Republic. BKS Bobrzanie asked the mayor to co-finance the trip. In his response, the mayor wrote:
“Referring to the letter of 5 April this year concerning the club team’s participation in the football tournament taking place from 7 to 8 May this year in Český Dub, I am pleased that the club actively participates in sporting events of international importance.
Unfortunately, the city’s budget is limited, and at present I see no possibility of providing financial support for the club players’ participation in the aforementioned tournament. Wishing you success, I remain yours sincerely. Mayor of the City Piotr Roman.”
The club officials make no secret of their disappointment with the mayor’s decision. BKS does not have the money to transport the young footballers and cannot allocate funds intended for other purposes to this expense. If it did so, the club would later have problems accounting for the money.
The editorial team of the “Istotne Informacje” Portal and Newspaper learned unofficially that the round trip (to Český Dub and back to Bolesławiec) would cost approximately PLN 1,500. Accommodation and meals for the young footballers are guaranteed by the tournament organiser.
