The duty officer at the Wrocław Psie Pole Police Station received information about an assault on a city bus driver. – The incident occurred during the night of 23 August this year, at around 1:30 a.m., on Obornicka Street in Wrocław – explains Deputy Commissioner Aleksandra Freus of the Wrocław Provincial Police Headquarters. – As a result, a police patrol was immediately dispatched to the scene.
What happened?
It turned out that an unknown man had attempted to board a city bus at one of the stops, probably wanting to spend the night inside the vehicle. The spokesperson said: – During his route, the MPK driver saw this behavior and pointed out that the man could not stay there. The man ignored the request.
After a while, at one of the stops and for no reason whatsoever, he forcibly pulled the driver out of the bus cabin and began striking him in the body and face. Fortunately, another passing driver saw the entire situation and decided to intervene. The deputy commissioner said:
The attitude of the MPK driver and the other witnesses caused the aggressive man to leave the scene at some point. Fortunately, the injured man did not require medical attention.
At the scene, police officers and MPK traffic control staff checked the bus surveillance footage, which showed the perpetrator. Having obtained an image of the crime suspect, the officers began searching for him. After several minutes, police officers spotted a young man matching the attacker’s description and immediately arrested him.
The spokesperson said:
The man was detained in police custody in connection with violating the bodily integrity of a public official. It turned out that he was a 25-year-old Ukrainian national with no permanent place of residence. The suspect had previously been convicted of theft and had served a prison sentence for it.
The 25-year-old has already been charged with violating the bodily integrity of a public official. The officers emphasize: – Let us recall that drivers providing passenger transport have been specially protected in this way for some time, because in the past there were many situations in which their lives and health were at risk.
After the procedural activities were completed, the Ukrainian national was handed over to the Border Guard with a request for his expulsion from the territory of the Republic of Poland.
Police:
We do not agree that foreign nationals who fail to comply with legal standards and commit crimes in Poland should be allowed to remain in our country. It should be noted that recently, in the capital of Lower Silesia, Wrocław police officers submitted three requests to the Border Guard in a single day for the expulsion from our country of people who repeatedly committed crimes and offences.
