The building on Mickiewicza Street will be taken over by the nearby Municipal Public Library – Centrum Wiedzy.
“It may seem that this is a distant future,” said Piotr Roman at the session. “I claim that in literally a few years we will all be using this, because the progress taking place in Asia and the United States, in which Europe participates to a very limited extent, affects us anyway, and we need to prepare properly for it,” the mayor added at the session.
For now, these are only plans, drawn up by officials. Major investments such as the International Ceramics Center and Centrum Wiedzy were also announced by the mayor as innovative and forward-looking projects. However, over time, because qualified managers were not hired, they became ordinary small-town centers where associations meet and children and young people attend arts and crafts classes. BOK – MCC is managed by former school principal and former deputy mayor Kornel Filipowicz, while Centrum Wiedzy is run by former MDK dance instructor Anna Idkowiak. And judging by the way both institutions are run, there is no fresh idea there.
We remember how the activities of the “Orzeł” Cultural Integration Center were announced in 2014. The building was adapted for film screenings and also served as a theater, dance, conference, and concert venue. The cinema had 125 seats and an extensive stage. The building also housed a café and two fully equipped studios: film and photography.
For several years, there has been no idea what to do with the building conceived and designed by officials, but not aligned with residents’ practical needs or modern cultural trends. Ultimately, in 2025, CiK Orzeł was taken over by the District Office for the needs of the Special School.
