Bolesławiec residents can have their bicycles marked free of charge. The Municipal Police handles this service. Anyone who wants to mark a bicycle must present two documents: one confirming their identity and another certifying that they are the bicycle’s owner. This could be, for example, a receipt or an invoice. It is best to arrange an appointment for marking by telephone at 75644 79 90.
Before the marking, a simple form must be completed. The marking itself consists of engraving a unique number on the frame and applying an appropriate sticker. It informs others that the bicycle has been marked. The Municipal Police also takes photographs of the bicycle, which it stores in its database. After the marking, we receive a paper, laminated certificate.
Naturally, marking will not prevent theft, but it may discourage thieves or make it possible to recover the bicycle. The number cannot be removed. It can technically be rubbed off, but doing so would also remove a substantial amount of metal from the frame, arousing the suspicion of any officer who inspected such a stolen and modified bicycle.
