The incident occurred on Monday, at approximately 4:45 p.m., in Okmiany. While on patrol, officers noticed a BMW whose driver, exiting a subordinate road, failed to yield and caused a collision with the police car.
Instead of stopping and speaking with the officers, the BMW driver accelerated sharply and began to flee. The police immediately gave chase, informing the unit duty officer of the situation. Despite the activated lights and siren, the driver did not respond and continued fleeing toward Wilczy Las.
At one point, the fleeing driver turned onto a gravel road, where he damaged his vehicle and tried to continue fleeing on foot. After a brief pursuit, he was subdued and detained by the officers.
It turned out that the driver was a 30-year-old resident of Legnica County who was subject to an active court-imposed ban on driving all motor vehicles. Tests for alcohol and drugs showed that the man was under the influence of alcohol and methamphetamine.
The officers also established that the registration plates on the BMW came from another vehicle. Several sets of registration plates were also found in the trunk; some of them were listed in the systems as lost.
The vehicle driven by the man was towed to a parking lot, and the driver was placed in police custody. The detained 30-year-old will face charges not only for a series of offenses, but also for crimes related to driving despite a ban and driving under the influence of drugs.
