According to the caller, the cars had registration plates from various parts of Lower Silesia, and the men traveling in them were probably a group of football hooligans. Given the dangers associated with hooligan-related crime, the police duty officer receiving the report immediately dispatched Lower Silesian criminal police officers, together with officers from the Wrocław riot-control unit who were nearby.
In the course of their activities, it turned out that football hooligans from clubs in Lubin, Świdnica and Wałbrzych were present at the site. Police officers also determined that several minutes later, football hooligans from an antagonistic football club were traveling along nearby provincial road No. 395.
Moreover, at the identified meeting place, officers noticed more than a dozen vehicles with concealed registration plates, which was intended to prevent them from being identified by law enforcement agencies if an assault took place.
The police officers’ professional actions and careful assessment of the gathering place of a large group of aggressive men made it possible to effectively prevent the planned physical confrontation. Several dozen football hooligans scattered in panic across the nearby agricultural fields when they saw the approaching police cars.
While carrying out activities at the scene, the officers identified more than thirty men who were wearing sports clothing and possessed accessories used in martial arts, including mouthguards, bandages and boxing tape, gloves and balaclavas. The football hooligans who were identified were dressed similarly—in dark sportswear bearing the logos of the football clubs they are “fanatics” of.
This type of clothing was intended to distinguish them in the event of a clash between supporters of different teams. A significant proportion of the identified men are known to police because they had previously been recorded in connection with hooliganism and stadium-related crime. Many of them train in martial arts, so if a physical confrontation had occurred—an assault on other football hooligans—the clash could have resulted in serious injuries to those involved in the fight.
Thanks to the effective and rapid actions taken by the officers, no one was injured. There is no tolerance, and there will be no tolerance, for hooligan acts involving football hooligans. Lower Silesian police officers are committed to a determined fight against stadium-related thuggery. Officers will respond to any attempts to disrupt public order during mass events involving football hooligans at stadiums and elsewhere.
