She has just written to us, a Reader:
(…) I am writing regarding the rats behind Prusa Street, on the Magistracka Street side. There are even more problems here; supposedly deratization was carried out, yet the rats are still roaming around. What is more, no one has even dealt with eliminating the burrows they come out of.
Let us recall. During the Ceramics Festival, we received information from Readers that there were rats in the centre of Bolesławiec. According to our informant, the worst situation was behind Prusa Street, at the intersection with Magistracka Street, especially around the rubbish bins.
We asked the Municipal Housing Management Company in Bolesławiec about the matter. Kazimierz Łomotowski, head of MZGM:
(…) I kindly inform you that this spring, scheduled deratization was carried out in areas administered by MZGM in Bolesławiec. The next operation is planned for autumn. Additionally, in situations requiring intervention—for example, following residents’ reports—orders are carried out outside the schedule. Such actions took place, among other locations, in July this year behind the block bounded by Prusa, Magistracka and Karpecka streets, as well as at the municipal pond on Kubika Street.
The director added:
In order to increase the effectiveness of the measures undertaken, letters were sent to the managers of adjacent areas and to PWiK Dolina Bobru Sp. z o.o. in Bolesławiec, recommending that they carry out analogous measures on their own premises. Only comprehensive and coordinated action by all parties—MZGM, building managers, water and sewage infrastructure managers, businesses and residents—can reduce the problem of rats in the city.
He also appealed to residents:
We appeal to residents to refrain from leaving food behind properties and to keep the areas around rubbish-bin enclosures clean. Such practices encourage rodents to multiply and make effective deratization more difficult. Simply placing deratization bait stations in areas administered by MZGM will not produce results without the simultaneous cooperation of all parties.
