Despite numerous appeals, this situation has happened again! – The story routinely began with an advertisement on social media promising quick profits through stock-market investments – explains Asp. Anna Tersa from the Legnica KMP. – The man from Legnica, having no experience in this field, filled out a contact form. A woman soon called him—from a number registered in the United Kingdom—and spoke with an eastern accent. In the following days, other “advisers” also contacted him, using numbers from, among other places, the Czech Republic and Polish cities.

At the callers’ urging, the man opened an account in a financial application and made transfers to the indicated accounts. Initially, he paid in several hundred zlotys, but over time, convinced by the supposedly high profits, he transferred increasingly larger amounts. The spokesperson: – Then, in order to withdraw the money he had earned, he had to undergo “verification”, during which he had to deposit additional sums.

The result? His savings quickly ran out, so... he took out loans, obtained credit, and even borrowed money from friends.

The breakthrough came only when the bank blocked his account and summoned him for a meeting, suspecting that the customer had fallen victim to fraud. The man then reported the matter to the police.

Aspirant A. Tersa:

The findings indicate that some of his money was withdrawn in Tajikistan. He lost almost PLN 470,000 in total.

Police officers remind the public that this is yet another recent case in which people have lost huge sums by trusting fake investment advisers: – The perpetrators often, but not always, use foreign telephone numbers and a foreign accent, and transfer the funds outside the country.

They add:

We urge you to use common sense and never invest money under the influence of promises of quick profits, especially when the initiative comes from a stranger contacting you by telephone or messenger. Verify the sources, consult decisions with your family or trusted advisers, and in case of doubt, contact the police.
