As part of extensive operational activities, two people directly connected with the crime were identified and then detained. During a search of one of the properties in the Stara Kamienica Municipality, another “environmental bomb” was discovered in a small forest. A batch of containers hidden there was found, containing a corrosive and irritating substance from the same source.
And adds: “The evidence collected made it possible to charge one person, a 47-year-old resident of Jelenia Góra. The man will be held responsible for improper handling of hazardous waste.
And announces: “The case is developing, and further detentions are planned.
The perpetrator faces up to 10 years in prison for this crime.
On 5 August 2025, inspectors from the Provincial Inspectorate for Environmental Protection in Wrocław received a telephone report from police officers. It concerned the discovery of waste in the Stara Kamienica Municipality, in Karkonosze County.
Inspectorate: “During the activities carried out, it was established that the plot was an unfenced meadow crossed by a line of trees, near which 11 closed containers were discovered—2 empty and 9 filled with an unknown liquid substance.
The containers had not been secured either from weather conditions or from access by third parties. One was found to be slightly damaged: there was a small crack in its upper wall. It contained a black liquid substance.
Inspectors: “A small leak of a black substance with a sour, chemical smell was found beside another one.
Firefighters were present at the scene, including the “Legnica – 2” Specialist Chemical and Ecological Rescue Group, which collected samples of the substance from the damaged container and from the site of the leak. WIOŚ:
Analysis of the field test results showed that the samples contained hazardous substances, classifying the contents of the containers as hazardous waste.
Officers secured the scene. The Lower Silesian Provincial Inspector for Environmental Protection asked the head of the Stara Kamienica Municipality to take action in the matter.
