The incident took place during the night of July 23–24 this year. – A person claiming to be a police officer called a resident of Mirsk. During the conversation, she was given the dramatic information that her daughter and son-in-law had allegedly been involved in a serious road accident and that cash was immediately needed to avoid serious consequences – reports junior aspirant Olga Łukaszewicz, press officer of the County Police Headquarters in Lwówek Śląski. – The scammer exploited the senior citizen’s emotions and trust. Before 3:00 a.m., a young man came to her apartment, and she handed him PLN 90,000.

Officers from the Police Station in Mirsk and the Police Precinct in Gryfów Śląski immediately began operational activities. Together with police officers from the County Police Headquarters in Lwówek Śląski, they quickly identified and arrested three young suspects from Wrocław, aged 19, 22 and 24.

During searches of the residential and utility premises occupied by the detainees, officers seized, among other things, nearly PLN 14,000 in cash, more than 9 grams of dried plant material initially identified as marijuana, several mobile phones of various brands, numerous SIM cards and confirmations of transfers to foreign bank accounts.

The detainees were charged at the District Prosecutor’s Office in Lwówek Śląski. At the prosecutor’s request, the District Court in Lwówek Śląski ordered pre-trial detention for all the suspects for three months. The spokesperson said: – The offense of fraud is punishable by imprisonment from 6 months to 8 years, while illegal possession of marijuana carries a sentence of up to 3 years in prison

The police once again appeal for caution! Officers never ask people to hand over money or provide information by telephone about ongoing operational activities. In the event of suspicious calls, immediately hang up and contact the nearest police unit.
