Although nobody in Bogatynia wanted to see Bąkiewicz, and the management of the Bogatynia Cultural Centre withdrew its offer to welcome him, this did not stop him from coming to the town.

In response to his unwanted arrival, people associated with Platforma Obywatelska in Bogatynia, Nowogrodziec and Zgorzelec organised a protest against those described as brown-thinking. On Friday at 6:00 p.m., Bąkiewicz’s supporters and opponents met outside the cultural centre.

The police were present at the scene and called on those gathered to disperse. The protesters expressed their dissatisfaction with banners bearing slogans such as “Robert, go home” and “Nationalism is not patriotism”.

Ultimately, despite earlier announcements, Robert Bąkiewicz’s appearance did not take place. During the protest, the situation in central Bogatynia was tense.

“The artificial creation of a migration problem that is, in reality, being effectively resolved through cooperation between Polish and German services is harmful to Poland,” comments Major Arkadiusz Szczęsny.

“Summing up the activity of a long-standing member of far-right and outright nationalist groups, I must state that it is inspired and financed by an irresponsible Polish right wing. This leads to very disturbing conclusions. The right-wing ‘elites’ are playing with the security of our homeland and trying to destabilise the existing legal order solely for political gain. The security of the state—that of Polish women and men—must lie in the hands of people prepared and responsible for it, not in the hands of right-wing militias that arrogate this right to themselves,” adds the reserve major.
