Wojciech Łobodziński’s side nevertheless lost the decisive final clash against Wisła Płock and will continue to play in the 1. Liga in the upcoming campaign.

Summary of the previous campaign

Miedź Legnica entered the previous season hoping to pull off a surprise, as they were not the main candidates for promotion. Teams such as Termalica, Arka Gdynia, Wisła Kraków and Wisła Płock were considered stronger contenders. The sides from Łódź and Chorzów were also highly regarded. Miedź Legnica therefore remained in the shadow of the favourites, hoping they might be able to surprise everyone.

For most of the season, this was generally a team hovering around mid-table and the play-off places. A change in the coaching position took place in March and improved the team’s results. Miedź Legnica went on an unbeaten run that lasted from the clash with Ruch Chorzów until the away match against Pogoń Siedlce, where the streak came to an end. The closing stages of the regular season proved to be the moment when Miedź Legnica began preparing fully for the play-offs. At that stage of the competition, it was already clear that the players from Legnica would have a chance to fight for promotion. However, direct promotion was no longer possible, so Wojciech Łobodziński focused on preparing his team for a potential clash with Wisła Kraków.

Sportsbooks considered Miedź Legnica to have only a minimal chance of eliminating Wisła Kraków before the play-off phase began, since the match was being played at the stadium on Reymonta Street. However, the visiting side was supported by the head-to-head statistics. Miedź Legnica had faced Wisła twice during the completed season and had not suffered a defeat. The play-off match ended in a victory for Miedź Legnica, who seized their opportunity and had plenty of luck defending their own goal.

Wojciech Łobodziński’s side were therefore one step away from promotion to Ekstraklasa. They only had one final mission to complete: winning in Płock against Wisła. Ultimately, they failed to achieve this goal, and Miedź Legnica will play at 1. Liga level in the new campaign.

Preparations begin

The break between seasons was not long for the players from Legnica. As a reminder, Miedź Legnica played the decisive promotion match against Wisła Płock on 1 June, and the first friendly before the new campaign will take place as early as 28 June. Miedź Legnica will face Arka Gdynia in that match.

In their subsequent friendlies, Wojciech Łobodziński’s players will also face Wisła Płock, Widzew Łódź and Górnik Polkowice. It is possible that additional matches will be added to the team’s calendar in the coming days.

The new campaign is scheduled to begin on 19 July. Miedź Legnica will start with an away trip to a demanding venue and a match against GKS Tychy. Sportsbooks currently consider Wojciech Łobodziński’s players the favourites for this fixture. This only shows that Miedź Legnica has earned analysts’ respect after what they displayed last season.
