Yesterday, after 5:00 p.m., the duty officer at the District Police Headquarters in Zgorzelec received a report of a car that had overturned. Emergency services, including a Road Traffic Division patrol, were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Officers determined that a 37-year-old resident of Zgorzelec County, driving a Volkswagen, had failed to adjust his speed to the prevailing road conditions. As a result of losing control of the vehicle, he hit a streetlamp and the car overturned.

After the Medical Rescue Team arrived, the driver was tested for alcohol, which showed that his blood alcohol level exceeded 1.5 per mille. Despite the assistance provided, the 37-year-old died in hospital as a result of his injuries.

Police remind everyone how important it is to follow road safety rules. Driving under the influence of alcohol is not only against the law but also poses a deadly threat to oneself and other road users.

Officers appeal to all drivers and road users to act responsibly and exercise caution. Let us react when we notice that someone intends to get behind the wheel after drinking alcohol—it is our duty to save lives.
