During a ceremonial gala in the Column Hall of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Office in Wrocław, Honorary Badges for Contributions to Territorial Self-Government were awarded to 18 people from across Lower Silesia. Among those honored were two Bolesławiec residents: Piotr Roman, the city’s mayor since 2002, and Józef Król – former Jelenia Góra and Lower Silesian deputy voivode.
The ceremony, chaired by Voivode Anna Żabska, symbolically honored people who built local-government structures and helped create local communities over decades. “These are the people who built territorial self-government from the ground up, often starting with the first elections in 1990,” Anna Żabska emphasized.
The Honorary Badge was established in 2015 and is awarded to people who have made a particular contribution to the development of the idea of self-government in Poland. This year, its presentation coincided with celebrations marking the 35th anniversary of the first fully democratic local-government elections.
