In theology and canon law, there is a term application of a Mass, derived from the Latin word applicatio, meaning assignment or application. The application of a Mass refers to a priest celebrating the Eucharist for a specific intention.
According to the centuries-old tradition of the Church, Masses may be applied for any legitimate and worthy intention. This means they may be offered for personal intentions, matters concerning the universal Church, or the world. The key requirement is that the requested intention be moral and worthy.
The parish website states that on Sunday, June 1, at 9:00 a.m., a Mass was scheduled in the filial church of St. Nicholas for the intention of Mayor Joanna Świder—for health, God’s blessing, and the graces needed for God to grant her peace of heart, so that she could fulfill her mission for the local community with dedication, determination, and God’s will.

Joanna Świder’s statement
I declare that I did not do this. Nor do I intend to find out who did. I went to Mass at the Church of St. Nicholas with my grandmother when I was a child. I still go there and intend to continue going in the future.
“The subject of my faith is not a public matter,” adds Joanna Świder, but she does not answer when asked whether she knew about the Mass offered for her intention and whether she attended it.
