Mirosław Sakowski, the school’s headteacher, presents the mock election at the secondary school as an excellent lesson in democracy in practice. Civic education allows young people to understand how the democratic system works and what the voting procedure itself looks like. Before voting, the students familiarized themselves with the candidates’ profiles and their ideas for Poland.
“I thought the candidate who invites young people for a beer would win,” comments Mirosław Sakowski on the results. “I was surprised by such strong support for the left among young people,” he adds.
There are 350 students at the school, and 60.29% of those eligible to vote took part in the mock election. Joanna Senyszyn won, receiving 41 votes.
In second place was Adrian Zandberg, and in third was Sławomir Mentzen (33 votes); Rafał Trzaskowski came fourth (30 votes). They were followed by: Grzegorz Braun (23 votes), Krzysztof Stanowski (18 votes), and Magdalena Biejat (16 votes). The remaining candidates received single votes.
