We were notified of the problem by a female reader, a resident of Gdańska Street. In an email to the editorial office of the “Istotne Informacje” website and newspaper, she wrote:

I would like to draw your attention to the problem of vandalism around Club Imperium in Bolesławiec, which appears with the arrival of warm weather. Guests of this club hold loud parties on the nearby promenade, destroying the surrounding benches, lawns and whatever else they can. I have just returned from a walk and [zauważyłam, że]the beautiful fifty-year-old spruce […] was probably broken by a car. There is a battlefield all around. Bottles, a broken bumper, a wheel rim. Why do we, the city’s residents, have to keep paying for this, while the drunk young people drive home in the morning and repeat the same performances a week later? The recreation area […] for residents is full of broken glass, rubbish and other things better left unmentioned on Sunday morning. Is there no way to stop this? There is the police and the municipal guard in the city, and what? Regards. A resident of Gdańska Street (unfortunately).

As we established, the broken tree has already been cut into pieces. The car parts—the bumper and wheel rim—were also cleared away. The police assure us that they patrol the area around the disco every weekend. “On Fridays and Saturdays, police patrols are regularly sent to Gdańska Street,” says police spokesperson Adriana Szajwaj. “We monitor this area more intensively during the summer and whenever discos are held at Imperium.”

Municipal guards also patrol the area regularly. “Gdańska, Rajska and Bobrowa streets are patrolled, and if we notice that the area is particularly littered, we report it to the Municipal Services Department,” says Emil Zając, commander of the Bolesławiec Municipal Guard Emil Zając. “Recently, we have received no reports from residents of Gdańska Street complaining about litter on the boulevard along the Bóbr River or acts of vandalism in these areas.”

The green area from Gdańska Street to Zgorzelecka Street belongs to the urban municipality. It is cleaned by ZieleńPlan. Every instance of pollution on the boulevard or vandalism should be reported to the municipal guard or the police.
