– Another example of how close international cooperation between law enforcement agencies produces tangible results in the fight against the most dangerous criminals. This time, the swift and, above all, effective actions of Polish police officers, preceded by a comprehensive exchange of information with their German colleagues, made it possible to locate and then detain a German national suspected of attempted murder in his country – explains Commissioner Przemysław Ratajczyk from the Wrocław Provincial Police Headquarters.

The incident occurred on 17 March in one of the towns in North Rhine-Westphalia. The victim, who suffered more than a dozen blows inflicted with a sharp instrument, barely survived. The perpetrator fled the scene and successfully evaded the German Police.

Spokesperson:

As it turned out, several days after the incident, the man suspected of committing the offense found shelter in Kłodzko County. Thanks to close international cooperation, which resulted in the German side providing Lower Silesian police officers with a great deal of important information, officers from the Persons Search and Identification Division of the Lower Silesian provincial headquarters and uniformed officers from Nowa Ruda were able to join the operation aimed at detaining the dangerous criminal.

Several days of intensive efforts made it possible to locate the wanted man, for whom German law enforcement authorities had urgently issued a European Arrest Warrant. On 1 April 2025, he was caught off guard by Lower Silesian “bounty hunters” supported by detectives from the Nowa Ruda police station.

Commissioner P. Ratajczyk: – At the time of his detention, the man was completely surprised by the presence of the Lower Silesian police officers. To mislead law enforcement authorities, he had changed his appearance: he was wearing a cap and glasses and had several days’ growth of beard. This did not fool the officers, however. During the activities, a knife was found on him.

The detainee is currently being held in pre-trial detention and, by court decision, will await extradition to Germany.
