Marcin Marczewski in his post criticizes SimilarWeb and assures readers of BolecInfo’s “full transparency.” The problem is that he does not conduct a public audit of his portal’s traffic. Such an audit is simply an independent confirmation of data – and that is exactly what SimilarWeb does. It is enough to share Google Analytics data once, and SimilarWeb presents it publicly, without the need to send it to each person separately.
Marczewski shared this data once – and it turned out that the results were significantly lower than he had previously claimed. When SimilarWeb showed this, access was revoked, and the promises of “transparency” remained just words. The explanation that this was out of concern for users’ privacy makes no sense – Google Analytics data is anonymous, and the publisher itself cannot see who visits the site. It is merely a convenient excuse to hide the real figures.
Average monthly number of visits on an annual basis:
- istotne.pl: 826 856 (2.75 times more than bolec)
- bolec.info: 300 304 (36% of istotne’s figure)
