On the railway network, timetable adjustments are made several times a year. The latest one will take place on Sunday, March 9, when the “spring” timetable will come into effect.
– This year’s spring change brings new connections operated by Koleje Dolnośląskie, including cross-border services. The changes are often the result of suggestions from Lower Silesian residents themselves, who are increasingly travelling around our region by train – says Paweł Gancarz, Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship.
New Jelcz-Laskowice – Wrocław Główny connection
An additional connection from Jelcz-Laskowice to Wrocław Główny will begin operating within the Wrocław metropolitan area. Passengers will be able to travel from towns near Wrocław to the regional capital on a train departing Jelcz-Laskowice at 8:11 via Siechnice. The journey over the entire route will take 29 minutes.
– Jelcz-Laskowice is one of the best-connected cities in the Wrocław metropolitan area, as passengers have more than 30 pairs of connections running via Czernica and Siechnice, Chrząstawa Mała, Nadolice and Dobrzykowice Wrocławskie. With this new pair of connections, we are responding to requests from passengers who wanted the opportunity to reach Wrocław before nine in the morning – says Michał Rado, Deputy Marshal of Lower Silesia, responsible for rail transport.
To the Czech Republic? Come to Trutnov!
Additional connections on the Sędzisław – Trutnov route will begin operating on April 19. In total, four pairs of connections a day will run on the railway line from Wrocław and Wałbrzych to Jelenia Góra and onward to this beautiful Czech town. Trutnov lies at the foot of the Karkonosze Mountains, and from there passengers can take a train, for example, to Svoboda nad Úpou or along the fairytale railway line to Martinice v Krkonoších.
– From both Svoboda and Martinice, we can set out on foot along the trails of the Karkonosze National Park on the Czech side, which Polish tourists have not yet fully discovered. From Svoboda or Trutnov itself, we can continue our journey by bus, making it possible, among other things, to plan an excursion to the summit of Śnieżka – says Damian Stawikowski, President of Koleje Dolnośląskie.
Also on April 19, an additional connection from Wrocław to Milicz, dedicated to cyclists, will begin operating on weekends and public holidays. The Ryszard Szurkowski train will depart Wrocław Główny towards the Barycz Valley at 9:44 (arriving in Milicz at 10:49); the return train from Milicz to Wrocław Główny will depart at 17:15 (arriving at Wrocław Główny station at 18:19).
A week earlier, on April 11, Kulturzug will also resume service – the direct connection operated in partnership between KD and Deutsche Bahn will connect Wrocław and Berlin on weekends via Legnica, Chojnów, Bolesławiec and Węgliniec.
Track maintenance
Two closures outside Poland are planned and will affect KD train services.
From March 17 to 20, the line from Międzylesie to Lichkov will undergo maintenance on the Czech side. From 9:20 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., both KD services and those of other carriers operating on this line will be replaced by replacement buses between the stations in Międzylesie and Lichkov on these days.
From April 15, the railway line in the Liberec Region between Harrachov and Jablonec nad Nysą will undergo maintenance. Passengers wishing to use the Szklarska Poręba Górna – Liberec connection will face disruptions until October 30. The work will significantly shorten journey times to the capital of the Liberec Region.
Three closures are planned on the Lubań Śląski – Zgorzelec section, during the following periods:
- March 15–24,
- April 5–14,
- April 26–May 5.
This section will be served by replacement buses, including from Jelenia Góra and Świeradów-Zdrój.
The buses will terminate at Zgorzelec station rather than Goerlitz. However, the timetables have been arranged so that after a dozen or so minutes, passengers can continue by Polregio train from Zgorzelec station to Goerlitz, or by Trilex to Goerlitz and onward to Dresden.
There will also be a closure on the Zduny — Krotoszyn section. PKP PLK plans renovation work there from April 14 to May 9. Services on this section will be operated by replacement buses.
Passengers should also expect disruptions on the Legnica — Rudna Miasto section. PKP PLK plans work on the overhead power network. The line will be closed only at night, from 10:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. This will affect several KD trains, which will be replaced by buses on the following routes:
- April 1–27 on the Legnica — Lubin section,
- April 28–May 28 on the Legnica — Rudna Miasto section,
- May 29–June 14 again on the Legnica — Lubin section.
The Studzianka stop on the route from Legnica to Żagań and Żary will also return to the timetable from March 9.
– As usual, we ask passengers to check their train departure times before travelling, as adjustments of several or several dozen minutes are possible – reminds Bartłomiej Rodak, press spokesperson for Koleje Dolnośląskie.
The next timetable adjustment will take place in June.
