Young Bolesławiec historian Dariusz Gołębiewski points out that patriotic holiday celebrations in Bolesławiec are always organized according to the same pattern and are almost exclusively official in nature. Residents are usually not informed about them or find out at the last minute, which is why they rarely attend the ceremonies. Instead of involving historians or creating more interesting educational formats (reenactments, trips, concerts), the events mainly feature politicians and local-government officials.
Gołębiewski calls for a variety of events promoting the history of Poland and specific historical figures to be organized for historical anniversaries, which would give the holidays greater value and attract more residents. In his view, official appeals and the laying of flowers do not have to disappear, but they should be an introduction to a broader educational campaign. At the same time, he doubts that the authorities will change the existing formula of the ceremonies because—as he claims on bolcu—they do not take the opinion of the local community into account.
