One of the items on the agenda of the February session of the Bolesławiec County Council was a vote on a draft resolution concerning a change to the name of the Jan Kochanowski Complex of Trade and Services Schools in Bolesławiec. The new name, which is to be used from 1 September 2025, is Technical and Environmental Schools Complex in Bolesławiec.

The councillors adopted the resolution unanimously.

What about Jan Kochanowski?

The patron will also disappear from the name. As explained by Mariusz Mendocha, deputy head of the Education, Culture and Sport Department at the Bolesławiec County Office, school complexes—as stipulated by the regulations—cannot have patrons. Individual schools forming part of the complex may have them.

The justification for the draft resolution states:

The current name of the Complex is the Jan Kochanowski Complex of Trade and Services Schools in Bolesławiec. On 8 January 2025, the Director of ZSHiU submitted an application to change this name. The proposed name received positive opinions on 11 December 2024 from the Teachers’ Council, Parents’ Council and Student Council. In the justification for the application to change the name of the Complex, the Director indicated that the leading fields of education at the schools forming part of ZSHiU are no longer occupations in the trade and services sector, but logistics technician (8 classes) and veterinary technician (5 classes). In addition, the school provides training for the occupation of photography and multimedia technician. The requested name of the Complex meets the expectations of the communities of the schools forming part of it, namely Technical Secondary School No. 5 in Bolesławiec and Stage I Sectoral School No. 5 in Bolesławiec, as well as the fields of education offered at these schools.

The replacement of seals, official signs and similar items will be covered from the institution’s own funds.
