On February 18, the District Court in Legnica issued a verdict in the case of 57-year-old chess instructor Piotr K., who was sentenced to 10 years in prison for sexual abuse and sexual intercourse with two minors under 15, as well as for possessing pornography involving minors under 15 and showing pornographic content to a person under 15.

The indictment in this case was filed by the District Prosecutor in Legnica in June last year. – Piotr K. was charged with having sexual intercourse with one of the minors and using a relationship of dependence as her teacher and coach. These acts took place in 2023. – explains prosecutor Liliana Łukasiewicz, spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Legnica.

She adds: – In 2018–2019, he committed another sexual act against another minor under 15 and caused her to perform such a sexual act. He had been in possession of pornographic content involving minors under 15 since at least 2020. In 2023, he showed pornographic content to one of the minors.

Piotr K. faced a sentence of between 2 and 12 years in prison. For all the acts combined, he was sentenced to a total of 10 years in prison; the prosecutor had requested 12 years. He is also required to pay compensation for the harm suffered to the minors, amounting to PLN 50,000 and PLN 30,000.

The court also imposed the following measures on the convicted man:

  • a 15-year ban on holding any position or conducting any activity related to the upbringing, education or care of minors;
  • a 10-year ban on contacting the victims in any way or approaching them within 50 meters, and approaching their place of residence within 100 meters.

Prosecutor:

The convicted man was also subject to a preventive measure requiring him to undergo comprehensive sexological and psychological therapy at an appropriate therapeutic center. Such a measure is carried out after the prison sentence has been served.

Piotr K. must also pay over PLN 16,000 in legal representation costs. Investigators: – The period of the accused’s pretrial detention from October 27, 2023, until the date the verdict was issued was credited toward his prison sentence. Piotr K. remains deprived of his liberty.
