– Police officers from the Independent Prevention Police Unit in Legnica, while on duty in Bolesławiec, checked two men sitting in a parked vehicle. The men became restless and visibly nervous when they saw the police car – reports junior inspector Anna Kublik-Rościszewska, press officer for the Bolesławiec District Police Headquarters. – Checking the individuals in police databases produced no results, but inspecting the items inside the car aroused the officers’ suspicions.
She adds: – The patrol from Legnica, aware that valuable fishing equipment had been stolen from a vehicle in Bolesławiec in recent days, decided to verify the items in the possession of the Ukrainian citizens.
Bolesławiec criminal investigators arrived at the scene and confirmed the suspicions of the Legnica officers. The result? The men, aged 33 and 26, were detained, and fishing rods and various accessories originating from the break-in of a minibus were secured.
That was not the end of it. The spokesperson said: – During a search of the basement used by the detainees, another fishing rod and a case belonging to the victim were secured. In addition, the officers secured other items whose origin one of the detainees was unable to explain rationally.
Ultimately, the police recovered fishing equipment worth more than PLN 13,000.
In the course of their activities, Bolesławiec officers established that the suspects were in fact fences who had purchased the stolen valuable fishing equipment at a bargain price—just PLN 400.
The policewoman:
On the basis of the evidence collected, both men were charged with handling stolen goods. They face a penalty of up to five years in prison.
Furthermore, in the vehicle being checked, the police found narcotics in the form of methamphetamine inside the sun visor. For this reason, the 33-year-old will also answer for possession of narcotics, an offense punishable by up to three years in prison.
