– Officers from the Economic Crime Department of the Bolesławiec police unit identified, following a series of investigative activities, a man who, over a period of two months, defrauded and attempted to mislead a telecommunications company – reports asp. szt. Monika Kaleta of the Lower Silesian Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław. – The city resident placed orders to purchase equipment on an installment plan, using other people’s details and providing various bank accounts and email addresses. In this way, he obtained five mobile phones and a laptop.

The Bolesławiec resident carried out his activities in September and October 2024. The spokeswoman: – It began when he found an identity card in a park. Having someone else’s personal details, the perpetrator used them to conclude the first contract for the purchase of a phone. He immediately sold the goods he received at a pawn shop.

He obtained the details of other people from a notarial deed to which he had access. In subsequent applications, he provided other people’s details, but certain elements were repeated, such as the delivery address and contact number.

The policewoman summarizes:

Over a period of two months, he committed more than 50 offenses. Six frauds were successful, and in this way he obtained five mobile phones and a laptop. The total losses were estimated at more than 11,000 zlotys. The remaining acts were attempted fraud, as the attempts to use other people’s details failed because the Bolesławiec resident did not successfully pass the verification or authorization process.

The police recovered a laptop worth more than PLN 2,000. Unfortunately, the suspect had already sold all the phones. Investigators:

The 36-year-old had already committed offenses involving the use of someone else’s document, which is why he was charged as a repeat offender. This means he faces an increased sentence for the acts committed—up to 12 years in prison. In addition, the suspect was wanted and, immediately after being charged, was taken to a penal institution to serve a one-year-and-three-month sentence.
