After New Year, we received a report from a reader:

(…) perhaps someone could describe what is happening at the Biedronka store on al. 1000-lecia in Bolesławiec (Lower Silesian Voivodeship): specifically, I have shopped at this store four times over the course of one month and four times I drew attention to a promotion. Some products are discounted, while others say they are on promotion, but at the checkout the old price is charged.

The person who submitted the report added: “They refunded my money four times; after leaving the checkout, I checked the receipt and they called the manager to return the money.”

They also concluded:

It was a strange situation, because they charged me at one checkout and returned the money at another; they neither took nor retained the receipt, only the store manager was called, glanced at the receipt and said that the difference should be paid out. And what happens if there are around 100 or more such differences every day? Do they share this money because people do not claim what is theirs, or what does it look like?

What does Biedronka say?

We asked the chain’s press office about the matter. Krzysztof Wołoszyn, senior operations manager:

In our chain, we offer customers more than 900 promotions every day. With such a large number of offers, it is exceptionally rare, but it may happen that the application fails to detect the discount due to the customer. If such an inconsistency is noticed while still in the store, customers can immediately contact the staff, who, in accordance with the procedure, will enter the price reduction into the system and efficiently process the complaint. If a customer notices the error after returning from shopping, they can report the matter to our Customer Service Office by email: bok@biedronka.pl, by phone: (22 205 33 00) or via the Biedronka application. If the report is justified, the complaint will be resolved in the customer’s favor.
