As reported by Gmina Bolesławiec:
Barbara is a woman with a big heart, the mother of three sons and the proud grandmother of five grandchildren. Always smiling, warm and ready to help others. Her life was filled with passions – she looked after her home, tended her garden and drew joy from every flower that blossomed there. She also loved immersing herself in books and spending time actively, happily discovering new passions, such as dancing.
Just four months ago, Barbara was a full-of-energy person who actively participated in the life of her village – Żeliszów. She took part in cultural events, supporting the local rural women’s association. Her professional experience included many years working as a hospital ward assistant and aide, where she cared for older people, helping them through difficult stages of recovery.
And she adds:
September 3 is a date that will remain in her family’s memory forever. On that day, Barbara’s life, as well as that of her entire family, changed dramatically. A ruptured brain aneurysm caused extensive damage. Specialists were forced to remove part of her skull in order to save her. After the operation, Barbara has been struggling with paralysis on her left side. She lost the ability to speak, and blinking her eyes became her only form of communication and her response to questions.
The three months spent in hospital were not easy. Barbara went through a coma, pneumonia and then sepsis. This is only the tip of the iceberg. She has also had to endure pain, paralysis, contractures and diagnosed depression, all of which significantly hinder her daily life.
And she concludes:
The dramatic turn of events showed Barbara’s family how fragile life can be. They realized how precious health, love, family and friends are. Although they had never asked for help before, their current situation forced them to seek support. Barbara’s rehabilitation costs are enormous, and the family cannot afford them.
Barbara has completed her first month of rehabilitation, which is already producing initial results. Although she still has a long way to go, every step fills them with hope.
