The third edition of the Valentine’s Concert took place on Friday, 11 February, in the auditorium of I Liceum Ogólnokształcące in Bolesławiec. The event aims to showcase the school’s talents—not only vocal ones. “It is already our tradition,” says Katarzyna Cieślak-Ostrowska, supervisor of the student council, which organized Friday’s event. “I am incredibly happy that three years ago we took a risk and organized the first Valentine’s Concert. It turned out to be a great success,” adds Katarzyna Żak, deputy head of the school.
The concert’s repertoire was varied. Everyone gathered in the school auditorium had the opportunity to hear, among other things, songs by pop music stars (Kamila Chrobot sang Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful” together with Anita Kaczmarek from GS No. 2), rock songs (“Czas komety” by Closterkeller, performed by Paulina Kordas, and an instrumental version of Guns N’ Roses’ “November Rain,” presented by a band consisting of: Bartosz Ambroziewicz, Igor Bińkowski, Magdalena Kubat, Kuba Brzezicki and Piotr Milde) as well as Metallica’s ballad “Nothing Else Matters,” performed by the Modnar group.
The audience also heard two interpretations of songs by the legendary Jacek Kaczmarski (Daria Pawłowska sang “Bal u Pana Boga,” while Kamila Wróbel performed “Pytania retoryczne”), PJ Harvey’s “Angelene,” performed by Irmina Wawer and Paulina Kozłowska, as well as the song “Jesteś lekiem na całe zło.” Krystyna Prońko’s great hit was sung by Katarzyna Cichewicz.
Two I LO teachers also performed on stage. Magdalena Malińska and Sławomir Zimniak played Heitor Villa-Lobos’s “Cuban Dance” on two guitars.
The concert concluded with a performance by the Random group. The band performed, among other pieces, “Matura” by Farben Lehre. At the end, Patryk Blicharski, the band’s guitarist, performed Carlos Santana’s “Europa” solo.
