We report almost every day on these pages that police have detained someone who violated a court-ordered driving ban. It looks like this may soon change.

Following another tragedy caused by a man subject to a court-ordered driving ban, Arkadiusz Myrcha, deputy minister of justice, spoke out. – We knew about this problem a long time ago, which is why we began working on it several months ago. This is one of the most important elements of the criminal law reform we have prepared: the edge of justice will be directed against people who drive despite a ban – he announced on Polsat News.

He added:

The point is not only to punish such people severely, but also to drive the idea of getting behind the wheel out of the heads of others who are subject to such a ban.

What is the ministry proposing?

Arkadiusz Myrcha told Polsat News: – A person responsible for a fatal accident who is subject to a court-ordered driving ban and flees the scene will face more than 20 years in prison, with no possibility of a suspended sentence, as well as a lifetime driving ban, forfeiture of the vehicle and a severe fine.
