We have our own picks, but we decided to ask our readers for their opinion. Below are a dozen or so photos from 2024, with a description of the event each one depicts. Choose the one you consider the best. These are obviously not photos for the World Press Photo competition, but they say something about our city.
We selected events from before the local elections, when our once again happily elected local authorities grandly opened everything that had managed to be renovated, such as the Youth Cultural Centre and the Ceramic Museum, and showered niche events with cash, such as the one held under the name “Clashes with the Theatre,” known throughout the world (except our Bolesławiec). As the money flowed, the sympathies and attitudes of the biggest oppositionists changed, and the culture of the city of ceramics grew stronger.
Events connected with Bolesławiec’s clergy could not be missing. Artificial intelligence helped us prepare a photo of a celebrity riding around in a church limousine. In July 2024, we published a second film about the lives of clergymen, richer than the life of the average parishioner: What Do Priests Do When They Take Off Their Cassocks? A Film About Hidden Gay Men in the Legnica Diocese. Are you also wondering what Fr Kusik and Fr Wolański are so cordially passing to each other during the Corpus Christi ceremony?
The next events are the Ceramic Festival and the Second Equality March in Bolesławiec. The expression on the mayor’s face as he sees a banner reading “We Are All Made of the Same Clay” approaching him is priceless. Director Filipowicz inviting the rainbow parade onto the stage is also quite a sight.
Does anyone still hum Bolesławiec’s anthem? It sounded like a combination of an EU directive and Bogurodzica. No one humming? Don’t remember the melody and lyrics? We remind you of the anthem with a photo from the filming of the music video on the roof of the round building.
There were other events, too. Tragic ones, such as the September flood. Joyful ones, such as the 32nd edition of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity. Unsettling ones, such as American soldiers flying over the city. Sentimental ones, such as the demolition of the Bolko building in the city centre, and spectacular ones, such as the grey-beige sky over Bolesławiec, covered in dust from the Sahara.
And the cherry on top: our dear senior journalist colleague from the portal, who still denies having lower traffic than us. Although the numbers do not lie, and istotne.pl has been the number-one portal for many years.
