A report of a fire in Skała reached the fire service on Monday, 30 December, after 8:00 a.m. Fifteen fire-service units were dispatched to the scene. National media, including Onet.pl, are already reporting on the incident in Jawor County: “I confirm that a fire broke out in a multi-family residential building and a nearby outbuilding in Skała,” asp. szt. Ewa Kluczyńska, spokesperson for the District Police Headquarters in Jawor, told Onet.

In addition to the fire, an explosion is also believed to have occurred in one of the buildings. The body of a man was found at the scene. A second person is injured. Police counterterrorists joined the operation. According to unofficial information obtained by Onet, an armed person may be inside the building.

Update at 1:40 p.m.

The counterterrorist operation is still under way. According to information provided to Onet by asp. szt. Łukasz Dutkowiak, spokesperson for the provincial police chief in Wrocław, a barricaded person who probably committed a murder may be inside the building. Negotiations are under way to persuade the man to leave the building.

Update at 3:00 p.m.

TVN24 reported that the operation had ended and that the man who had barricaded himself inside was also dead. Police officers negotiated with him, but without success. They ultimately decided to enter the building, using a ladder placed against a window. After entering, they found a body. The circumstances of this death will be investigated by the prosecutor’s office.
