On Friday, December 13, a press conference was held at the sports field complex at Primary School No. 5 in Bolesławiec, attended, among others, by Piotr Borys, Deputy Minister of Sport and Tourism. When introducing the guest, Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman emphasized that he is a local native. The deputy minister said:
Indeed, Bolesławiec is my birthplace. I have always felt sentimental about it.
But he immediately emphasized:
We are trying to take care of all municipalities and all local governments so that sports infrastructure, mainly school-based facilities, serves children and young people, as well as clubs. We have very worrying statistics in Poland. Almost 30% of children are completely inactive. We are at the bottom of Europe when it comes to overweight. Every infrastructure project and every form of support for physical activity is an investment in the health and fitness of children and young people. Although not only them, because our sports development strategy is based on a model in which physical activity accompanies us throughout our lives. 80% of Finland’s entire population is physically and sportingly active, while in Poland the figure is only 23%, so we have a lot to do.
He added: – Investing in children is, in fact, an investment in the coming decades.
More than PLN 1.3 million in funding from the Ministry of Sport will be allocated to finance the sports field complex at Primary School No. 5.
Piotr Borys also announced:
Next year, we will already want to continue the “Active School” program, financing the salaries of a physical education teacher, a coach and, after classes, an activities coordinator. More than 7,000 schools in Poland have already joined the initiative, creating sports activities after classes and on weekends. There are 20,000 training groups. We want to do everything possible so that after classes, this public school-based infrastructure serves children in various sports.
The Bolesławiec municipal office explains:
The funding concerns the completed project “Construction of a sports complex with accompanying infrastructure at Primary School No. 5 on Dolne Młyny Street in Bolesławiec.” The total cost of the investment amounted to PLN 3,030,191.50, and the official opening took place in October 2024.
