Arek Kukawski from Milików is a third-year student at the Nowogrodziec middle school. He has had neither hands nor feet since birth. Despite his disability, he plays football, writes and operates a computer without anyone’s help. Both middle-school students, the school management and staff, as well as students’ parents, graduates and people of goodwill joined the “Helping Arek” campaign. In 2009, a charity concert was organized for the boy, while in 2010 a cabaret show was held.

In March last year, we reported that, thanks to the commitment and generosity of kind-hearted people, the dream of a young resident of our county had come true. At the end of February 2010, the boy came to school on “new legs.” The change was immediately noticeable. An upright posture, a smile and contentment on his face, and above all—the ease with which he climbed the stairs leading to the school.

For Arek to be able to fully use his prostheses, further financial outlays are needed. The boy comes from a large family. “His parents certainly cannot afford such an expense,” says Alicja Krawczyk, the initiator of the charity campaign.

During the charity concert, which will take place this Sunday, February 6, in the assembly hall of the Primary School in Nowogrodziec, money will also be collected for Natalia Pokora, a first-year student at the Nowogrodziec middle school. The girl was involved in a serious road accident. She currently requires long-term and very costly rehabilitation to enable her to return to school.

During Sunday’s “Smiling Through the World” concert, teachers and graduates of the Nowogrodziec Middle School, as well as invited guests, will perform. The event begins at 3:00 p.m.. Admission costs PLN 5 (free for children under 5).
