On Thursday, February 3, the Forum hall hosted the jubilee tenth edition of the English Language Festival, organized by I Liceum Ogólnokształcące in cooperation with Bolesławieckie Centrum Kultury-Międzynarodowe Centrum Ceramiki. Over the years, the event has had various names. The idea has always been the same: to motivate young people to learn the language of Shakespeare.
That day, the audience had the opportunity to hear, among other things, three new songs by teacher Leszek Idzikowski, arranged by Mateusz Celmer. The song “Silence” was performed by Katarzyna Selwent and Monika Urbaniak, “For Your Love” was performed by Katarzyna Pelc, while “Crime, Little Crime” was presented by Paulina Kowalik.
Everyone gathered in the Forum cinema hall could also watch a parody of the fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood, “Little Red Riding Boot,” as well as a play about Gabriel Stonyface, who had three worlds with women.
“This year, for the first time, we involved first-year students in the undertaking. In fact, students from our school approach me themselves and say that they would like to perform,” Leszek Idzikowski relates. “The participants in this year’s festival are not professional actors, yet they still gave a true display of acting talent.”
According to the teacher from I LO, participating in the English Language Festival is an excellent way to learn English. “The students open up and start speaking the language better and more fluently. They also perform better in their secondary-school-leaving examinations,” he emphasizes.
The Forum cinema hall was packed. During breaks between successive program items, Leszek Idzikowski interviewed members of the audience. The festival concluded with a performance by a band consisting of: Bartosz Chmielewski, Marcin Kafel and Tomasz Kawiak. The group played a song from Marek Jackowski’s repertoire. Idzikowski himself provided guest vocals.
