As reported by the Bolesławiec police:
Yesterday afternoon, Bolesławiec emergency services received a report about a senior woman who was experiencing symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning. The 85-year-old was taken to hospital. The woman lives alone. Her apartment is heated with a tiled stove.
Police officers appeal for the responsible use of heating appliances and adherence to basic safety rules. Carbon monoxide, or carbon monoxide gas, is a “silent killer”: it cannot be seen or smelled, and a small dose can be fatal.
Officers remind residents that it is worth installing a carbon monoxide detector, which detects carbon monoxide and alerts residents when its concentration in the air becomes excessive. The small device increases safety in indoor spaces, reduces the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning and enables a quick response in a life-threatening situation.
