Officers from the Economic Crime Division of the Bolesławiec police determined that a resident of Polkowice County was hiding illegal tobacco products at his mother’s home.

– After entering the utility rooms belonging to a resident of Gromadka Municipality, officers secured various types of cigarettes without Polish excise-duty stamps. All of the tobacco products belonged to a 46-year-old man from Polkowice County – explains Asp. Sgt. Anna Kublik-Rościszewska, press officer of the Bolesławiec County Police Headquarters. – The man admitted that the cigarettes secured in Bolesławiec County belonged to him.

In total, Bolesławiec police officers secured more than 87,500 cigarettes without Polish excise-duty stamps, as well as cut tobacco. The spokesperson: – The total value of the seized illegal tobacco products resulted in an excise-duty shortfall of more than PLN 86,000 thousand PLN and a VAT shortfall of more than PLN 21,000.

She adds: – Under the provisions of the Fiscal Criminal Code, the man could face up to 3 years in prison, as well as substantial financial penalties.
