President Piotr Roman, while presenting councillors with a report on the most important actions taken between sessions, mentioned, among other things, that the Municipality of Bolesławiec wants to cooperate with the Institute of National Remembrance through cultural institutions: BOK – MCC, the Museum of Ceramics and MDP. – The IPN has very interesting educational programmes. It is very important to us that young people learn about recent history – the mayor said. – Those who want to destroy the IPN are doing Poland great harm.
The head of Bolesławiec City Hall added that the city wants to commemorate the victims of Nazism. This concerns the work camps (AL Bunzlau I and AL Bunzlau II), as well as the burned synagogue that was located on Kubika Street (the green area next to the children's home).
It is precisely on Kubika Street that a boulder with information plaques financed by the IPN is to be placed. As the president explained, the idea is to create a place for reflection on what totalitarianism led to.
The victims of Nazism from AL Bunzlau I and AL Bunzlau II are to be commemorated at Staroszkolna Street and Orla Street (Concordia), respectively. The mayor noted that this is intended to “ease social tensions”.
We will return to this subject.
