The incident occurred at the end of September. The duty officer at the District Police Headquarters in Złotoryja received a report from a man stating that he had stopped an intoxicated driver in one of the towns in the Świerzawa municipality.

At the scene, officers from the Police Station in Świerzawa established that the 61-year-old driver had come to a shop to do some shopping. His behavior concerned two local residents, who, suspecting that he was under the influence of alcohol, took decisive action. To prevent a tragedy on the road, they removed the keys from the ignition, thus preventing the 61-year-old from driving any further, and informed the police about the incident.

The officers checked the 61-year-old’s sobriety. A breathalyzer test showed more than 3 promille of alcohol in his exhaled air. In addition, when checking the man’s details in police systems, they established that this was not his first such offense. The 61-year-old did not have a driving licence. He had lost it in the past for driving a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

The court will decide the man’s further fate. He will face charges for a road traffic offense committed under recidivist conditions. He faces a sentence of between 3 months and 5 years in prison, a fine and a lifetime driving ban.
