6 days ago, in parish announcements published on social media, parish priest Stanisław Kusik informed parishioners:
"We have already returned to our duties connected with the new school year, to everyday matters after the holiday and vacation period. We would like to invite everyone to become actively involved in the life of our parish community. Soon, we will announce proposals for meetings and various groups. Disturbing news is coming from primary and secondary schools. More and more parents are withdrawing their children from religious education, including directly after First Holy Communion. The same is true in secondary schools. Catholic parents, both when entering into the sacrament of marriage and at the time of baptism, have undertaken to provide their children with religious upbringing."
Thus, the parish priest confirmed that the Catholic Church is seeing the trend reported by the media. In Bolesławiec primary schools, the number of children who do not attend religious education classes has doubled over two years. Two years ago, more than 20% of children in primary schools did not attend religious education classes (in 2021, the figure was only 10%). The highest rate was recorded at Primary School No. 2, where nearly one in four children did not attend religious education classes. Among secondary schools, Zespół Szkół Mechanicznych is the most religious. More than three-quarters of its students attended religious education classes last year. Zespół Szkół Budowlanych was the most secular.
In our poll of August 31, 2024, 60% of votes were cast for the answer: I will not enroll my child in religious education in the 2024/25 school year
In 2020, religious education in kindergartens, primary schools and secondary schools in Bolesławiec cost residents more than PLN 1.7 million.
