A traffic patrol in one of the streets of Lubin (Lower Silesian Voivodeship) noticed a woman driving a Ford passenger car whose driving style suggested that she might be under the influence of alcohol. The officers decided to stop her for a roadside check. The uniformed officers turned on their lights and siren, signalling for the driver to pull over. However, she did not respond to the police officers’ instructions. Only when the officers blocked her path did she stop the car.
A 25-year-old woman was behind the wheel, while her two children, aged 4 and 6, were sitting in the back. The children were not wearing seat belts and were not in child seats required by law. It was the middle of the night.
When the police checked the woman’s sobriety, it turned out that she was under the influence of alcohol. The test showed more than 0.6 per mille of alcohol in her system. The officers confiscated her driving licence
As the 25-year-old had no one to whom she could entrust her children, they were placed in the care of staff at an emergency care facility in Lubin. Their mother was arrested and taken to a police cell. After sobering up, she was charged with driving a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
For this offence, the 25-year-old faces up to 3 years in prison, a driving ban and a heavy fine.
