New guidelines on teaching during hot weather will probably be ready in spring 2025, Radio Zet has learned. The Ministry of National Education is consulting the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy on solutions to the problem.
Radio Zet has obtained information indicating that when the outdoor temperature exceeds 35 degrees Celsius, lessons are to be shorter, held under different arrangements, and perhaps conducted remotely. It is also possible that classes in schools will be cancelled because of the heat.
At present, the regulations do not specify an upper temperature limit at which lessons could be suspended. If an event threatening students’ health occurs (heat), the school principal may temporarily suspend classes at the school with the consent of the governing authority.
Suspending classes should be an action taken only after other remedial measures, intended to mitigate the negative effects of high temperatures, have been used.
And what do our readers think about this? Are such regulations necessary?
