Ensuring road safety is one of the priority tasks entrusted to traffic police officers. This time, officers from the Traffic Department of the Zgorzelec police unit, together with officers from the Traffic Department of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław and the County Police Headquarters in Lubań, Lwówek Śląski and Złotoryja, carried out an operation called “Safe A4 Motorway”. During the operation, the officers used a police drone, which enabled them to spot truck drivers ignoring the overtaking ban on the motorway.
During the operation, the officers inspected 32 vehicles and identified 20 offences. Sixteen drivers were fined, applications for punishment were filed with the court against two, and two received warnings. Due to the poor technical condition of the vehicles, two registration certificates were confiscated.
A reminder:
if a truck driver overtakes on a motorway or an expressway with only two lanes for the given direction of travel, they must expect a fine of PLN 1,000 and 8 penalty points.
If the same offence is committed again, the fine will increase to PLN 2,000 and another 8 penalty points will be added to the driver's record. In such a case, after exceeding 24 points, the driver will be referred for a check of their qualifications.
