The agreement will take effect on Thursday. Thanks to it, by presenting MPK Wrocław tickets (valid for at least 24 hours), we will be able to travel between 31 stations and stops bearing the name Wrocław, as well as to Iwiny – a stop located next to Wrocław’s Jagodno district.
Strategic cooperation and billion-zloty investments
A month after the agreement between the voivodeship and Wrocław local governments was signed, we have a concrete result: from August 1, city tickets will once again be honored on regional trains within the city.
– This is an important day for Lower Silesia, and above all for Wrocław and its metropolitan area. It is the result of good cooperation between the voivodeship government, Wrocław authorities and other local governments, because the agreement would not have been possible without cooperation, commitment and determination at many levels – says Paweł Gancarz, Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship.
Thanks to the agreement, Koleje Dolnośląskie and Polregio trains will become an integral part of public transport in the capital of Lower Silesia, while school students and seniors over 65 will be able to use them free of charge within the city.
– This is an important addition to the city’s transport network, allowing nearly 300,000 Wrocław residents to benefit from free travel. We are fulfilling our campaign promise, and it is also a good sign for future cooperation. Our agreement demonstrates shared responsibility for the region and its capital – adds Jacek Sutryk, Mayor of Wrocław.
When the agreement was in force three years ago, several thousand Wrocław residents used city tickets on trains every day. Since then, the number of stations within Wrocław has grown, and the number of regional connections operated by Koleje Dolnośląskie has also increased.
– I would like to thank the city’s representatives, Jacek Sutryk and Renata Granowska, for reaching an agreement so quickly. Over the past few years, we have invested nearly one billion zlotys in rolling stock. As a result, we are better prepared to handle not only regional traffic but also metropolitan traffic – says Damian Stawikowski, president of Koleje Dolnośląskie.
Fast and safe transport for everyone
The ticket will benefit not only Wrocław residents but also people from the Wrocław metropolitan area. Under the agreement, they will be able to travel from the first station within Wrocław using a single ticket – the same one honored by MPK. Regional carriers’ trains can be used with the following MPK tickets:
- 24-, 48-, 72- and 168-hour tickets,
- personal period tickets (but not tickets assigned exclusively to two MPK lines),
- 30-, 60- and 90-day transferable tickets.
– Fast, safe and environmentally friendly transport is a matter of civilization, not politics. Thanks to the agreement between the local governments, we have achieved our first success, but this is not our final word. We intend to introduce a unified ticket throughout Lower Silesia. By making the rail offer more accessible, we want to encourage Lower Silesia residents to use trains – adds Michał Rado, deputy marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship responsible for rail transport.
The agreement was concluded for the period from August 1, 2024, to the end of 2025. The City of Wrocław will co-finance train services within its area. The total value of the agreement is approximately PLN 53 million including VAT.
– The UrbanCard matter was an absolute priority for the new voivodeship government. During the election campaign, we promised to resolve it within three months, and we have indeed managed to deliver on that promise – says Wojciech Bochnak, deputy marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship.
A similar agreement operates, among other places, in Warsaw, where passengers can travel on Koleje Mazowieckie and Warszawska Kolej Dojazdowa trains using city tickets.
– On behalf of the county board, I would like to thank the marshal and the mayor from the bottom of my heart. It will be easier for our residents to commute to the places where they work and study. This is a fantastic first joint project after the local elections, and I believe it will not be the last – sums up Włodzimierz Chlebosz, head of Wrocław County.
Under the agreement, in addition to the City of Wrocław, Wrocław County and the Wrocław Metropolitan Area association are also contributing financially.
