Beavers have taken a liking to Młynówka. The problem is that their activities are disrupting the operation of Leśny Potok on Jeleniogórska Street in Bolesławiec, blocking the flow of fresh water to the facility with dams they have built. This may pose a threat both to the fish in the reservoir and to drivers.

All this means that employees of the Municipal Sports and Recreation Centre regularly dismantle the beavers’ constructions. Then the largest rodents in Eurasia start doing their thing again. And so it goes, round and round.

The problem first arose three years ago. The beavers caused considerable damage around Leśny Potok at the time. They undermined the embankments around the retention reservoir. However, the issue was resolved then.

Now the mammals with very sharp teeth have appeared in the area again. The matter is known to foresters from the Bolesławiec Forest District. As spokesperson Maciej Krzak explains, a beaver—just like a human—must at some point attempt to leave its family lodge. And although beavers are generally very useful, doing a great deal of good for nature, their activities do not always fit well with human activity.

The rodents in question are protected, so they can possibly be captured and relocated. (That is how the problem with these mammals was resolved three years ago, incidentally.) Whether this will also be necessary now remains to be seen.
